"A town garden" Kiev by Klod5

Je suis venu pour la première fois en Ukraine : Kiev, Odessa en été 2000... et Kherson un peu plus tard.
Je suis arrivé, la première fois, dans la capitale le 12 juillet 2000, sous une chaleur torride.
Je commençais à visiter un petit peu la ville, et découvrir ses secrets. Depuis, j'ai appris une partie de son histoire, et désormais, je retrouve chaque monument avec joie, car c'est une autre façon de les voir désormais.
Depuis, j'aime revenir en Ukraine, et Kiev reste un passage obligé, mais tellement agréable, que je reste toujours quelques jours dans cette ville, avant d'aller plus loin dans le pays.
Mon dernier voyage en Ukraine était du 29 mars, au 7 avril 2003.

Kiev, Kyiv, vous me verrez écrire des deux façons le nom de la capitale, soit en français, soit en ukrainien, peut être une façon d'exprimer ma double culture naissante, j'hésite chaque fois entre les deux orthographes.

I came for the first time in Ukraine : Kiev, Odessa in summer 2000... and Kherson a little later.
I arrived, the first time, in the capital July 12, 2000, under a torrid heat.
I began to visit a little the city, and to discover its secrets. Since, I learned a part of its history, and henceforth, I recover every monument with joy, because it is another way to see them henceforth.
Since, I like to come back in Ukraine, and Kiev remains an obligated passage, but so pleasant, that I always remain some days in this city, before going farther in the country.
My last travel in Ukraine was of March 29, to April 7, 2003.

Kiev, Kyiv, you will see me writing some two ways the name of the capital, either in French, either in Ukrainian, can be a way to express my double newborn culture, I hesitate every time between the two spellings.

Il y a plusieurs parcs et jardins dans Kiyv, un peu partout dans la ville. C'est ce grand nombre d'espace verts qui me fait dire de Kiev, que c'est une ville posée dans un jardin .
Parmi tous ces jardins, deux ont attiré mon attention de jardinier et de botaniste :

Le jardin botanique , situé sur T. Shevtchenka boulevard, avec une serre tropicale, un palmarium et des collections de cactées, ainsi que des plantes endémiques des Alpes, avec beaucoup de plantes rares des Carpates.

Le parc botanique , qui domine la ville, au dessus du Dniepr et de Perchers'ka. C'est un endroit superbe.
Il y a une collection importante de lilas que, hélas je ne pourrais pas voir encore en fleurs cette année. Pour moi, les lilas sont importants, parce que sur le plan émotif ils représentent beaucoup : mon grand-père en a cultivé beaucoup, et a produit des bouquets de lilas toute l'année.

Mais il y a de nombreux autres parcs dans la ville :
Près de la station de métro Arsenal , un grand parc en face de l'Hotel Salyut, en direction du monastère de Kyiv-Perchersk Lavra : vous avez depuis ce parc, près du Monument aux Héros du Dniepr, un magnifique point de vue sur le fleuve et la rive gauche de la ville.
En face de l'université, le parc Taras Chevtchenko , ombragé et frais en été, avec ses joueurs de dominos plongés dans des parties acharnées...

There are several parks and gardens in Kiyv, almost everywhere in the city. It is this big number of parkland that makes me say Kiev, that it is a city put in a garden.
Among all these gardens, two attracted my attention of gardener and botanist :

The botanical garden , situated on T. Shevtchenka boulevard, with a tropical greenhouse, a palmarium and of the collections of cactus, as well as of the endemic plants of the Alps, with a lot of plants rare of the Carpathian.

The botanical park , that dominates the city, to the over of the Dniepr and Perchers'ka. It is a superb place.
There is a collection important of lilac that, alas I could not see this year again in bloom. For me, the lilacs are important, because on the emotional plan they represent a lot : my grandfather cultivated a lot of it, and produced bouquets of lilac all year round.

But there are many other parks in the city :
Close to the Arsenal's station subway , a big park, fron of Salyut hotel, in direction of the monastery of Kyiv-Perchersk Lavra : you have since this park, close to the Monument to the Heroes of the Dniepr, a magnificent point of view on the stream and the left strand of the city.
In front of the university, the park Taras Chevtchenko , shady and cool in summer, with its players of dominoes dived in fierce parts...

Kyi, Schek, Khoryv, and their sister Lybid

La capitale de l'Ukraine et la troisième plus grande ville d'ex-URSS (population - 2,654,000) après Moscou et St.-Petersburg.
Fondée au 5e siècle, elle est devenue la capitale de la région Kyiv Russe. C'est à Kyiv que le Christianisme a trouvé un premier point d'appui parmi les Slaves de l'est quand le Prince Volodymyr [Vladimir] le Grand à baptisé collectivement son peuple dans le fleuve Dniepr [Dnieper] en 988.

Même après le déclin de la Principauté de Kyiv (13e siècle) quand Ukraine est devenue une partie de l'Empire russe, Kyiv est resté un centre culturel majeur de l'Empire, célèbre pour son architecture remarquable, ses théâtres, les beaux-arts, la musique, etc.,

Kyiv a sévèrement souffert pendant seconde guerre mondiale ; beaucoup d'irremplaçables trésors architecturaux et artistiques ont été détruits. Après une restauration considérable, Kyiv est maintenant la ville touristique la plus populaire en Ukraine. Dans l'ex-URSS sa popularité vient juste après Moscou et St.-Petersburg seulement.

The capital of Ukraine and the third largest city of ex-USSR (population - 2,654,000) after Moscow and St.Petersburg.
Founded in the 5th century, it became the capital of Kyiv Rus. It was in Kyiv that Christianity first found a foothold among Eastern Slavs when Prince Volodymyr [Vladimir] the Great had his people collectively baptized in the Dnipro [Dnieper] River in A.D.988.

Even after the decline of Kyiv Principality (13th century) when Eastern Ukraine was a part of the Russian Empire, Kyiv remained a major cultural center of the Empire, famous for its remarkable architecture, theaters, fine arts, music, etc.

Kyiv suffered severely during World War II; many irreplaceable architectural and art treasures were destroyed. After considerable restoration, Kyiv is now the most popular tourist city in Ukraine. In the ex-USSR its popularity is next only to that of Moscow and St.Petersburg.
