France is a country, and offers everything to the traveler: forests, beaches, cities, wine country, chateaux...and whether you are a shopper, hiker, beach bunny or history buff, you can find what you are looking for in France.
I went to the Cordon Bleu school in Paris and learned how to cook from really outrageously gifted chefs. It was a wonderful experience, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in cooking or food. The Cordon Bleu offers full courses for anyone interested in becoming a full-time chef, but it also offers one day or specialty courses: such as a tour through a Paris marketplace.
The french people aren't nearly as snobby as one might think, however there is a distinct difference between Parisians and the rest of France. The first time I went to Paris, I came back home with the attitude that people in Paris hate Americans. Then I learned after doing some research, that Parisians don't have disdain for Americans: they have disdain for EVERYBODY who isn't Parisian! However, if you go with the attitude that this is part of the charm of Paris, you'll come away with a much different attitude. I love Paris, and the French people. I also love the Champagne region; Mont St. Michel, Tours, Rheims, Chartres, and the rest of France. No one can argue that the French have style about everything: decor, clothing, food and wine.
My favorite museum in Paris is the Rodin Museum, and I go everytime I am in Paris. It is an amazing place. The Louvre is also wonderful, but wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to spend all day!
See the catacombs: they are fun, weird and memorable.
I also always recommend that if you see the Eiffel Tower, afterwards take the time to take a Bateau Mouches tour down the Seine. I usually take the late one (after 10 p.m.) that doesn't include food, but does take you around Paris with all the buildings and sights illuminated.
Take the time and effort to stand in line for 2 hours to see the Moulin Rouge. It is hideously expensive, but they don't disappoint. This is much more than a T&A show: they are like the original Cirque de Soleil with skimpier dress. Very Very Very Talented! Jugglers, mimes, dancers...well worth the time and money. It is crowded and chaotic, but great fun. |
