We had looked forward to Petra for years, and this past November we finally made the trip to Jordan. Staying two days in Petra, and exploring the miles of Petra was almost beyond description. The first day we spent all day walking and hiking, including a hike up to the monastery and back, and the "the view" at the top. It was chilly in November, but during the day it was actually perfect for hiking. Bright blue skies and a temperate climate made the day so enjoyable. We saw Bedouins everywhere - they are such beautiful, friendly people. Everyone must leave 1 hour before sunset, as Petra is quite dangerous at night, with the rocks and drop-offs and cliffs. Though we were told that even the Bedouins must leave, we saw signs that many had made little camps up in the caves high in the mountains. The second day we explored some more, including the royal tombs. We didn't ride horses in or camels out, because we wanted to hike through, and we loved every minutes of it. |
