The cliff is 18 km long and 41 meters high. It is an impressive sight as the cliff rises straight up from the see and then ends at the flat fields of the surrounding area. On clear days you can see Sweden and Øresund Bridge from the top of the cliff.
The cliff consists of limestone from the oldest tertiary age (63 – 65 million years old). There is also some chalk made in the youngest tertiary age.
The limestone and chalk was deposited here, when the crayfish that lived in the see that covered Denmark at the time died and fell to the bottom of the sea. The landslides that continue to happen here make sure that the cliff is always looking bright white and not get covered in plants.
