In some places the beach is up to 2 km wide.

Therefore it is smart to drive in your car down to the water. It is not so cozy with all those cars at the beach, therefore there are ares where cars are not allowed to enter. This photo shows one of them.

The photo is taken at Søønderstrand, which is located to the south of the main beach of Lakolk. This beach is more quiet than Lakolk and not that well visited. It is also a beach for naturists, but it is easy to find your own spot, where you don't have to watch anybodys bare bum.

Sønderstrand can be reached by the main road (just go south from the traffic lights where you enter the island), or it can be reached by driving south on the main beach (make sure you follow the paths or you can get stuck in the loose sand, if you don't have a 4-wheel-drive)

The ferry to the German island Sild/Sylt sails from Havneby.

This photo shows what it looks like from the beach. It really looks like it is sailing on the sand, but I assure you that it is not the case.
