Place of outstanding natural beauty The good thing about this place is that it is not saturated with tourists like the Lake District. Hawes is a great little market town, checkout the cheese in the local family shop in the centre. Hardraw Force the highest waterfall in England is near here too. I know the area very well and spend a lot of time there. Malham is my favourite place with Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janets Foss and Malham tarn. Malham does get fairly busy in summer as does Grassington and Burnsall. I think its the limestone which makes Malham special. Skipton is a great old market town on the edge of the Dales. Lots of old pubs with character, a castle from 1200 AD and a market. On the edge of the Dales there is also the Leeds and Liverpool canal, the nicest part is between Barnoldswick and Skipton. |
