WELCOME TO MY PAGE I grew up in Brighton Sussex in the UK. I have spent a great deal of my time in Canada but have now returned to the UK to be with family and friends.
Brighton is a wonderful tourist destination on the South Coast, only 52 miles (80kms). from London the capital. Brighton is also an English language centre for International students. There are approx. 20 Schools offering courses. Needless to say the night life is hectic with lots of clubs and pubs. The Brighton Festival is held here each Spring. The University of Sussex is also situated close by. Main attractions are the Brighton Pier, Pavilion and the Lanes. |
| | Royal Pavilion King George IV (1762 -1830) resided in this rather ornate Palace, which was transformed by John Nash, adopting the style of Indian architecture.Due to his philanderings and extravagant lifesytyle he eventually lost favour. On Oct 26/1921 a new gate was added to the Pavillion entrance. As a gift from India to Brighton it pays tribute to the doctors and staff who attended the Indian soldiers who were treated in the pavilion from 1914 - 1915. H H Maharaja of Patiala performed the ceremony. |
| | Lanes Brighton English's Oyster Bar in the Lanes is quite famous, Charlie Chaplin himself once dined here. Established some 150 years ago it prides itself on its fresh seafood The Lanes are a popular destination for tourists, including day trippers from London. Lots of curio shoppes etc. English's can be found at 29-30-31 East street Brighton |
| | Day trippers! Time to relax and chill out. |
| | More of the Lanes Where have all the tourists gone! |
| | South Downs Surrounding Brighton are the South Downs.Comprised of chalk, they were originally covered with trees.Alas, the trees have gone but the landscape has remained largely undisturbed.Farming, along with sheep grazing are to be found here. The South Downs Way is an extensive hiking trail that was created to provide access to the public. Its a popular place on week ends for hang gliders too. |
| | Terraced houses By wandering the streets of Brighton, one can find hidden treasures like these wonderful terraced houses. |
| | West pier Just west of the Brighton pier once stood the West pier in Hove. Dilapidated and run down it was sorely in need of a major renovation. It is believed an arsonist set fire to the structure to save the taxpayers money ! |
