Filene's Basement: Cheap Shooping
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Name of Shop: Filene's Basement

This store is at Downtown Crossing, which I consider the center of Boston (intersection of SUmmer/WInter Street and Washington St. Tons of stores and food around here ranging from Chilean food to Bath and Body Works. Great for people watching or grabbing a bite to eat. Pretty seedy later on though...especially Winter Street. I would recommend staying away from there after 10pm.

What To Buy: There's lots of little huts that sell stuff that says "Harvard" or "Boston" on it. Filenes BASEMENT (not upstairs), H&M, Borders, and Payless shoes are where I shop.

The Globe Corner Bookstore: Travel Stuff
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: The Globe Corner Bookstore

This place is a must-shop for VT'ers. It's got tons of travel books and other travel materials, including maps and software. Great for browsing and just plopping down on the floor and reading.

What To Buy: Maps. The maps are key. Everything else there you can probably readily find somewhere else, but it's all in one place there.

Hello fellow BU alumnus, I agree about the BU buildings being ugly, but if it hadn't been for BU I wouldn't have fallen in love with this great city.

They say you can swim the Charles north of Watertown now. However, I did get a rash after getting soaked while sailing one day last year...
