Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Boston is famous for its volatile weather...thus, the overused quote "if you don't like the weather in (insert name of city with crazy weather), just wait five minutes."

In Boston, you can usually err on the side of cruddy weather.

As for rain advice, I say leave your umbrella at home. I opt for a rainslicker with a good hood and waterproof shoes. The combination of wind and rain makes umbrellas usually useless.
