Before you leave, contact you local bank...you should tell them you will be using your cards (credit or ATM) out of the country. You may want to have your daily ATM limit raised. ATM's around Dam Square have long lines all weekend and usually run out of money by Sunday so make sure you have enough

Guys get the benefit when it comes to public urination. I suppose it's because they are my likely to commit the act! Ladies are left to find a friendly cafe or pay a euro or so for the priveledge. I guess that's the price you pay for privacy!

Do you like herring? I mean do you REALLY like herring? Dutch sushi is brought to you canal side. Find yourself a stand and get ready for some raw herring. You can even have raw onion on top in case the taste of the fish is not enough for you. It is worth a few minutes of your time to watch a master work. They filet before your eyes as fast as people eat them. Down the hatch if you dare!

Most people say that it is not necessary to tip in Amsterdam. I have noticed that it is appreciated by all bartenders and all waitstaff. I have gotten into the habit of tipping just a bit...if your looza is 1.80, leave the 2euro. Why wouldn't you tip for a meal like this?
