I've heard this is Europe's longest market at about 2 miles. The market is located in de Pijp which will take you out of the centrum. Tram 4 to the market stop will take you directly there. Along with the fresh cheese, meats and fruits you will find fabric and underwear! Shampoo to luggage. An interesting mix.

Since this is a museum that is dedicated to the city of Amsterdam and it's history, you will find treasures almost equal to the Rijksmuseum. Tour the collection and watch Amsterdam rise from the water to become what it is today.

Understand what happened in the past. WWII had far reaching effects for Holland. Hear the story that we are all familiar but for the first time see the hidden annex. It is a powerful experience to say the least.

You can choose a canal cruise during the day, at night a canal bus, a water taxi, a museum boat or even boats powered by humans. Anyway you try it, make sure you see Amsterdam from the water. You will get a new perspective of the city and see great architecture at the same time. No worries, all the tours come in at least 4 languages.

Coffeeshops sell coffee but they also sell green gold. Yes folks, marijuana is for sale in the coffeeshops with the green and white sticker in the window. Dutch tolerance is a wonderful thing. Don't overdo it and become a silly tourist knocking the locals off their bikes.

On the weekends, there are lots of people hanging out on the steps of the National Monument. Soaking up the sun, reading, writing...whatever. Great vibe. Don't forget to actually check out the monument.

Originally built as the town hall, it has been used as a Palace since 1808. The interior is spectacular, especially the Tribunal and Citizens Hall. Check out the maps inlaid on the floor! A great way to spend a few hours

If you want ot have some fun...head to Leidsplein. Lots of cafe's, coffeeshops, clubs and restaurants. American food available as well, nothing like a Burger King to ruin a perfectly good Amsterdam street. If you are look for fun outside of Dam Square, this is where you will find it.

Will you find the next Rembrant or Vermeer? Probably not but, it's fun to walk the art market on Sunday. Great fun for a few hours.

Shop with the locals. It's a great market, different from the Albert Cuyp. Second hand items are for sale along with new things. Be sure to bargain just a bit.
