Trumpet Festival

There are folk celebrations across Serbia from May until the late autumn. The most popular of these is the Dragacevo Trumpet Festival in Guca, not far from Cacak in Western Serbia. For this occasion, cafe owners put up tents in the nearby fields, city streets, squares, even the church yard. About 300,000 visitors pass through the little town in the three days of the festival. The brass virtuosos competing in the festival entertain the guests for three days and three nights. Guca is the only place in the world where the trumpet is played “in your ear”.

Food and Drink

Come to Serbia to celebrate Epiphany, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Easter in our, Orthodox manner. Do a great honor to a Serb host, come to his slava, the day of the saint protector of his household.

For starters, you will have cheese, kaymak, corn bread, smoked ham, meat mold, cheese or green vegetable pies. Before starting, as an appetizer, you can have a stiff drink, one of the rakijas (brandies): plumb, apricot, pear, vine, herbal, the rare mulberry brandy, prepecenica (twice branded brandy), or the "tea of Sumadija", that is, boiled brandy.

The Serb menu offers baked beans and bean stew, sarma, stewed sourkraut, cabbage with mutton. For gourmets, there is Karadjordje steak and hayduk grill. Grill specials, like a train, thunder through your plate: kabobs, grilled meat patty, mixed meat, meat balls, lamb, pig, veal roasts... Should you desire a bottle of good wine with your meal, you won't make a mistake if you decide on a bottle from the wine cellars of Sremski Karlovci, or Vrsac, Zupa, Smederevo, the Timok region, but also from Kosovo...
