From all around the world, it's easy to go to London by plane. There are 4 airport in the area, the largest would be Heathrow. Getting to and from the airport, you can go by bus, taxi or train. Last time I was in London, we came to Stanstead airport, and then we took the new Standstead airport Skytrain. It is highly recommended, because it went fast, and it weren't too expencive. It's last stop is Liverpool street, and you can take the tube from there to where you are staying. Very easy and comfortable!
London is indeed a very big city, but I advice you to walk as much as possible anyway. Wear comfortable shoes, and start walking. London is full of pedestrians, and it is a great way to get to see the entire city. Of course you can not walk everywhere, and then I recommend the tube. But you have to take at least one ride with the famous London taxis, and the red double-deckers. It's easy to get around, so don't even think about bringing your own car.
