| Art Nouveau taken to extreme. |
I knew little about Art Nouveau before spending 2 days wandering neighborhoods and ogling some 50-odd examples of this sometime tastfully understated and sometimes outlandishly mystical architectural design and -- taken to its most extreme -- lifestyle. |
| More Art Nouveau, among so many examples |
| | I was extremely fortunate to have been guided by a kind and generouse VTer who, as a local resident fascinated in the Art Nouveau genre and Brussel's portfolio of examples, really made my visit wonderfully immersive. I can't possibly thank her enough for sharing her otherwise valuable time and knowledge just to help me get a sense of things. |
| | Stayed at the Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo, which is dead center in lower town and a short walk from anything and everything. Brussels is a very welcoming and approachable, and the people were uniformly pleasing and helpful. Met the grandson of Ernst Blerot while observing one of the iconic architects houses, who provided me with a personal tour of the house's amazing Art Nouveau tilework.
A great international city! |
