I was in Costa Rica in January 2006 for 16 days. It was a marvellous trip through a very beautiful country.
We were travelling through the country in a rental car and in my opinion this is the best way to get around (not the cheapest though). You need a 4WD car to get around, because the "roads" are steep and full of huge potholes and also some rivers have to be forded.
What impressed me most, was that Costa Rica has so many different regions were you can see volcanos, beautiful empty beaches or rainforests.
Costa Rica might be the most expensive country in Central America (compared to Nicaragua or Panama), but its a definite beauty!
