Other demands in the workaday world have prevented me from giving these VT pages the attention they have so richly deserved. But I'm finally uploading the photos, so that's a start in the right direction! (Although, many may be lacking detailed descriptions for quite some time still...)

From my first visit to the city of Beijing in early June 2003 through more recent journeys, I've spent time at MOST of the major attractions within the capitol's environs and surrounding countryside.

But I still haven't made it to the Summer Palace or Ming Tombs (and much prefer the Juyongguan section of the Great Wall to that at Badaling). Like the rest of China, Beijing offers much to see and do. Enough for a number of journeys -- enough so that you can have different experiences everytime you visit.

With construction rapidly destroying much of the "old Beijing" in preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games, past favorite spots are disappearing at an alarming pace. But Beijing is such that you can always find new favorites simply by turning a corner and discovering the unexpected.
