Brazos is a resort community 16 miles to the southeast of Chama. Go ten miles south of Chama on US 84/64, and then head east on NM 512 along the Rio Brazos. The deer come down from the cliffs and mountains in cold weather and early spring, and they can be fed by hand as they wander around.

A very scenic drive is along US 64 from just south of Tierra Amarilla over the mountain range east to Tres Piedras, and continuing southeast across the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and into Taos. The Brazos Cliffs visible to the north at the beginning of this drive are the western edge of a brance of the Rocky Mountains. They contain some of the oldest rock in New Mexico - some 1.7 billion years old.
