....Trace Back Time...
The central plains stretching northward from Bangkok are the historic heartland of Thai people. The impressive ruined city of Ayutthaya stands as a fascinating link with Thailand's past.
It was one of the greatest cities in Asia during the 15th and 16th centuries.
Let's back to know history of Ayutthaya a bit. The city of Ayutthaya was founded around 1350 by Ramathibodi I (1351-69) who came here to escape an outbreak of smallpox at Lop Buri. In that year it became the capital of Siam and the city expanded into a great trading center with entrepot trade between China and Europe. It prospered for four centuries until 1767 when the invading Burmese ,after four years of fighting, completely destroyed the city, leaving only ruins which can be seen today.
Anyway.. it's a history. Don't be upset. |
You can visit Ayutthaya by air-conditioned bus or hire a car and drive it yourself. Because it is only 30-40 Kilometers far from Bangkok International Airport. We started our engine around 9.00am ,drive along the main Wipavadee road and went back on 6.00pm (The old places in Ayutthaya will be closed on 5.30pm) The first stop was the Bang Pa-in Summer Place(take a look at my Bang Pa-in page) and go directly to Ayuttaya. But I recommend you to go there as early as possible, otherwise the sun will burn you and you will sweat like sauna. |
