I live in Freiberg since two years. it's a need place which has it's own charm. Nice old buildings, that have been restored and some how are just about to colapse. good blend!! Also a ggo bunch of cool people, especially students, but the old people are nice too. It might be hard talking to them though. Freiberg is good for hikes around the center of town. almoust all the houses there are a couple of hundred years old. some 500and older!!.
First thing to be aware of:
Freiberg in Saxony is not Freiburg in Baden-Würtemberg, however similar the English pronunciation may be. The difference is several hundred kilometers
City
Freiberg does not have a birth certificate, but it is still more than 800 years old and the lively home town for about 46,000 inhabitants. If you believe in the legend, then in 1168, wagon drivers from Halle found silver in a fragment of ore lying in a vehicle track during a rest or breakdown. Broad euphoria broke out and spread so that by 1200, Freiberg was one of the most important cities in the area. The old part of town, which still reflects its origin, is a valuable monument to medieval city construction. Its narrow cobbled lanes create a special atmosphere. With the Late Gothic Cathedral and its Golden Portal, the famous tulip pulpit and the big organ from Gottfried Silbermann, the city along the Silver Street is a destination for many tourists. The economic structure is dominated by semiconductor production, a modern recycling economy and processing business.
Culture
"Short distances, long evenings" is the slogan of the Freiberg students who have discovered Freiberg's advantages as a small city. There is a Multiplex cinema together with an engaged film club, theater, organ concerts in the Cathedral or the Flower-Power-Festival in the neighbor city, museums, discos, sport areas and over 100 pubs and restaurants. The popular "Kneipenmeile" (Pub Mile) on Meißner Gasse at the lower market is the main location for the Pub Festival and the Music Night which take place annually as well as the Mountain City Festival and an Art Market.

I wonder if your Freiberg is the town where my ancestors lived before they moved to the USA. Hmm!
"Das Kartoffelhaus" looks like an interesting restaurant. We have some great eating places in Berlin too, but I don't think they are as old.
"Das Kartoffelhaus" sounds great! Nice page!
Sounds like a good place to live!
Really nice town ;-)
