Several centuries before Christ, the area where Córdoba is situated, was well know by Phoenicians and Carthaginians. Romans settled there at 1st. century BC; at 5th century AD, Visigoths invaded the place, and after them, at 8th century, the Muslims settled there and took Córdoba as the capital. Fernando III el Santo (Ferdinand the Third, called the Saint), conquered Córdoba to Castilla at 13th century. All these people left their traces at this beautiful city, and gave it a special charm. Córdoba has been the home town of several philosophers and poets.Varios siglos antes de Cristo, la región donde Córdoba está situada era bien conocida para los fenicios y los cartagineses. Los romanos se establecieron allí en el siglo I AC; en el siglo V DC, los visgodos invadieron el lugar, y posteriormente, en el siglo VIII, los musulmanes se establecieron allí e hicieron de Córdoba su capital. Córdoba's Cathedral was originally a Mosque; Abderramán the First began its construction in 756, over an ancient christian church. As time went by, new constructiones were added to the original mosque; at 10th century, Almanazor finished the building. After the conquest by Fernando the Third at 13th century, Córdoba became christian. Further, at 1523, began the construction of the Cathedral. It is a beautiful building; despite your believes, the Mosque-Cathedral is an awesome place, and so is the gorgeous orange-trees courtyard.La Catedral de Córdoba fue originalmente una mezquita; Abderramán I comenzó su construcción en 756, sobre una antigua iglesia cristiana. A medida que fue pasando el tiempo, nuevas construcciones fueron anexadas a la mezquita original; en el siglo X, Almanazor concluyó la construcción. Luego de la conquista de Fernando III el Santo en el siglo XIII, Córdoba pasó a ser cristiana; posteriormente, en 1523, comenzó la construcción de la catedral. Es un hermoso edificio; más allá de las creencias de cada uno, es un lugar impresionante, y su patio de los naranjos es realmente precioso.

Not only Romans, Muslims and Christians left their traces at Córdoba; also Jewish people did. A proof of this is the ancient Sinagogue, built at 14th century, that still remains at the old "judería" (Jewish district). Unfortunately, it is not well preserved.
No sólo los romanos, musulmanes y cristianos dejaron sus huellas en Córdoba; también los judíos lo hicieron. Una prueba de ello es la antigua Sinagoga, construida en el siglo XIV, que aún permanece en la vieja judería. Lamentablemente, no se encuentra bien conservada.

Torre de la Calahorra is a tower situated at one bank of river Guadalquivir, at the end of a Roman bridge. There is a very interesting museum at the tower, and from its roof you can enjoy a beautiful sight of Córdoba. Built in 1369 by Enrique de Trastámara, who wanted to fight back the attack of his brother Pedro, this awesome tower houses the "Three Culture Museum" (Muslim, Christian and Jewish), a real "must" when visit Cordoba.
La Torre de la Calahorra está situada en una de las orillas del río Guadalquivir, al extremo de un puente romano. Hay un muy interesante museo histórico en la torre, y desde su cima se puede disfrutar una hermosa vista de Córdoba. Construida en 1369 por Enrique de Trastámara, quien quería defenderse de los ataques de su hermano Pedro, esta torre imponente aloja al "Museo de las Tres Culturas" (Musulmana, Cristiana y Judía), cuya visita es un verdadero "deber" cuando se visita Córdoba.

Christian Kings' Alcázar (fortress) is an artless building, but it has wonderful gardens. Trees, flowers, fountains, waterfalls, are hidden behind the fortified walls. The Alcazar was built by King Alphonse the Ninth. The Catholic Kings lived here during the reconquest, and where Cristopher Columbus met them before his trip to the "Indias". There is a very interesting Roman mosaics museum inside the building.
El Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos es un edificio sencillo y despojado, pero tiene unos jardines espectaculares. Árboles, flores, fuentes, cascadas, se ocultan tras las murallas fortificadas. El Alcázar fue construido por el Rey Alfonso XI. Los Reyes Católicos residieron aquí durante la reconquista, y en donde Cristóbal Colón se entrevistó con ellos antes de su viaje a las Indias. En su interior hay un interesante museo de mosaicos romanos.

From there you can enjoy a beautiful sight of Cordoba, the mythical Guadalquivir and the ancient big wheels and mills.El antiguo Puente Romano atraviesa el río Guadalquivir, desde la ciudad antigua hasta la Torre de la Calahorra. Desde allí pueden disfrutar una hermosa vista de Córdoba, el mítico río Guadalquivir y los antiguos molinos y norias.

This tower is probably the most famous building in this town; high, elegant, dominates Seville skyline. It is actually Cathedral's belfry; it has a weather vane on the top and a balcony, from where a beautiful view is seen. The Cathedral of Sevilla is really beautiful... and it took a long time to build it: the ancient Mosque was built between 1184 and 1198 (it was made of bricks); in 1248 it is consecrated as Cathedral. Later, in 1434, began the construction of Gothic Cathedral, made of stone. During Renaissence, Baroque and even later, several constructions were added. The last works date from 1928. You cannot miss the chapels, the chancel, the museum, the Giralda and the beautiful orange-trees courtyard. Columbus' tomb is situated in this Cathedral.La Catedral de Sevilla es realmente hermosa... y llevó un buen tiempo construirla: la antigua mezquita fue construida entre 1184 y 1198 (estaba hecha de ladrillos); en 1248 fue consagrada catedral. Posteriormente, en 1434, comenzó la construcción de la catedral gótica, hecha en piedra. Durante el Renacimiento, el Barroco e incluso después, numerosas construcciones fueron añadidas. Los últimos trabajos datan de 1928. No puedes perderte las capillas, el coro, el museo, la Giralda y el hermoso Patio de los Naranjos. La tumba de Cristóbal Colón se encuentra en esta catedral.
