Barri Gotic (Gothic District) is the most ancient part of Barcelona, and it is very attractive. There you will find the Cathedral, Plaça de Sant Jaume, Casa de la Ciutat (City Hall), Palau de la Generalitat (Catalonia's Government Palace), Palau Reial Major, and other historical buildings. Barri Gòtic es la parte más antigua de Barcelona, y es muy atractiva. En este barrio se encuentran la Catedral, la Plaça de Sant Jaume, la Casa de la Ciutat, el Palau de la Generalitat, el Palau Reial Major y otros edificios históricos.

This magnificent church was begun in 1882; a year after, Antoni Gaudi was designate director of the project, and he dedicated the rest of his life to his masterpiece. Gaudi died in 1926. Eight of the twelve belfries are just built; they can be visited (some by elevator, some by stairway). (More pictures at the travelogue) Esta magn?fica iglesia se comenz? en 1882; un a?o despu?s, Antoni Gaud? fue designado director del proyecto, quien dedic? el resto de su vida a su obra maestra; Gaud? muri? en 1926. Ocho de los doce campanarios ya se han construido; pueden ser visitados (algunos por ascensor, algunos por escaleras).

Late 19th century and early 20th, a new architectural style was born in Barcelona. The modernism revolutionized "el eixam-ple" (the enlargement, a new district); several architects built amazing houses for the bourgeoise. Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) is a group of blocks where the best of this new buildings are situated. The picture shows Casa Batlló, built by Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1906. A fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX, un nuevo estilo arquitectónico surge en Barcelona. El modernismo revolucionó eñ "eixam-ple" (el ensanche, un nuevo barrio); varios arquitectos construyenron espectaculares edificios para la burguesía. Quadrat D'Or (Cuadrado de Oro) es un grupo de manzanas en donde se encuentra lo más selecto de estas construcciones. La foto muestra la Casa Batlló, construida por Antoni Gaudí entre 1904 y 1906.
