Several centuries before Christ, the area where Córdoba is situated, was well know by Phoenicians and Carthaginians. Romans settled there at 1st. century BC; at 5th century AD, Visigoths invaded the place, and after them, at 8th century, the Muslims settled there and took Córdoba as the capital. Fernando III el Santo (Ferdinand the Third, called the Saint), conquered Córdoba to Castilla at 13th century. All these people left their traces at this beautiful city, and gave it a special charm. Córdoba has been the home town of several philosophers and poets.
