This Championship confronts the South American Champion Club and the European Champion Club (we keep on talking about football). Since 1960, there have been 41 championships (it was not contested in 1975 and 1978), and South American Clubs won this Cup 21 times.
Who will be the next Champion?

Well... South America has another Cup! December 14, 2003: Boca Jrs. from Argentina won the chmpionship.

World Cup

Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in almost every South American country, and many football stars have been born in this continent. The first World Cup was contested in Uruguay, in 1930, and since then, South American countries won this Cup nine times:

*Uruguay: 2 times (1930 - 1950)
*Argentina: 2 times (1978 - 1986)
*Brazil: 5 times (1958 - 1962 - 1970 - 1994 - 2002)


El fútbol es el deporte más popular en casi todos los países sudamericanos, y muchas estrellas del fútbol han nacido en este continente. La primera Copa Mundial se disputó en Uruguay en 1930, y desde entonces, países sudamericanos ganaron la Copa en nueve oportunidades:

Who is the other football idol? Diego Armando Maradona, also known as "la mano de Dios" (God's hand). This controversial but genial player was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1960; he played in his country and in Europe (he is a hero in Naples!), and he was World Champion with the Argentinian team.

O Rei Pelé

Edson Arantes do Nascimento was born in Minas Gerais (Brazil) in 1940; when he was 16 years old, he began to play football at the Santos (Santos Futebol Clube), and then it began the legend of O Rei Pelé (King Pelé). He was World Champion with the Brazilian team in 1958, 1962, and 1970, but until now, he keeps on "playing" at the political and social fields.
