King Felipe II (Philip the second) ordered the construction of this palace-monastery-library-church-Royal pantheon in 1563, as an homage to San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence).
The building was finished in 1584.

El Rey Felipe II ordenó la construcción de este palacio-monasterio-biblioteca-iglesia-panteón real in 1563, en homenaje a San Lorenzo. El edificio fue terminado en 1584.
