Colonia del Sacramento is one of the most charming towns in Uruguay; cozy, gorgeous, full of mysteries... Despite this, I did not visit Colonia since I was a teenager a couple of centuries ago. When my VT friend Mark (acemj) told me he would be in Buenos Aires, we arranged a meeting in Colonia; I was very happy, because the meeting and my new visit to this lovely town.
Why do I call this the ugliest page? Because I had a problem with my camera, and I lost a lot of pictures!!!! You hardly will find here beautiful colonial buildings, narrow streets of cobblestones, cute balconies with geranium... So if you want to see nice pics, you must check Mark's page...!
Colonia del Sacramento was founded by Portuguese Maestro de Campo Manuel de Lobo in 1680; this place belonged to the Spaniard Crown (actually, it belonged to the natives!) so the foundaton was a provocation. Colonia was the centre of geopolitical conflicts from the begining, and until now, Portuguese and Spaniard traces can be seen in its architecture. The urbanization, however, has a typical Portuguese style.

Interesting page on your vt meet with friend. Sad about camera. Next time.....
hello andrea! now I know how to get to Colonia. And I may just do that, if I manage to motivate myself away from tango classes and mi querido San Telmo. Ciao, hope to see you in Uruguay!
I enjoyed visiting Colonia again through your pages. Perhaps you do not have pictures of everything, but at least your finished your Colonia pages! I could not eat all of my parrillada.
Nice photos and tips on colonia del sacramento.. I'd love to travel to south america some day since it has a lot to offer.. Thanks for visiting our site and say hello to Manuelita from us :)
This town is a gem;-\
A great page of your meeting with Mark! The cobblestone street tip reminded me of how surprised I was to see them still used for streets & sidewalks everywhere we visited on our trip to Portugal. I really like this custom! PS, nice lighthouse photo!
Place to far but very beautiful, i wish i could experience visting this beautiful place.
Reminiscent of Old San Juan, PR...
