After several days traveling with my friends in Bolivia, we had to go back to Montevideo; there was no direct flight, so we had to spend less than one day in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Of course, you will not find in this page a lot of information about this city, just few impressions. When I thought of Bolivia, I imagined the Altiplano ("Tableland"), the Andes, the Aimara's culture, the Titicaca Lake, the ruins of Tiwanaku. Santa Cruz de la Sierra has nothing in common with these things; it is situated at Los Llanos ("The Flats"), a fertile region. The city was founded by Spaniard conquerors in 1560, at a different place, and in 1595 the city was "moved" to its present location. It is an important commercial centre, and the most modern city in Bolivia. The weather is hot and damp... If you remain standing for a while, some ferns will grow up on you!!!!!
