Finally... Ushuaia. A trip planned in advance for years; the trip around the world done by Magallanes and Elcano did not have so many preparatives, I am sure.
In 1999 I "discovered" Ushuaia in a TV program; I mean, I knew the existence and location of this place, but I was not interested. Since I saw that program, the idea of visiting the Southernmost city of the world began to infiltrate my mind. At that time, I had decided to visit Peru with a friend the next year, so I put back this trip. But then came Spain, and then San Carlos de Bariloche, and then, Puerto Madryn... January 2004 was the date for this trip. I called my travel agent, and then the problems began... There was not accomodation in Ushuaia. The poor girl inquired at hostels, pensions, B & B, half quality hotels, luxury hotels... Nothing! It looked like Ushuaia moved away once more. When my vacations agonized, I receibed the expected phone call: "I got you a place! You are leaving at 23rd." And here I am, at the End of the World. In the end.
Finalmente... Ushuaia. Un viaje planificado con años de antelación; el viaje alrededor del mundo que hicieron Magallanes y Elcano no tuvo tantos preparativos, de eso estoy segura.
En 1999 "descubrí" Ushuaia en un programa de televisión; es decir, sabía de su existencia y de su ubicación, pero no me interesaba particularmente ir allí. A partir de ese programa, la idea de visitar la ciudad más austral del mundo comenzó a infiltrarse en mi mente. Por ese entonces, con una amiga habíamos decidido ir a Perú el año siguiente, así que pospuse este viaje. Pero luego vino España, y luego San Carlos de Bariloche, y luego Puerto Madryn... Enero de 2004 iba a ser la fecha del viaje tan pospuesto. Hablé con mi agente de viajes, y allí comenzaron los problemas... No había alojamiento en Ushuaia. La pobre chica averiguaba en hosterías, pensiones, albergues, hoteles de medio pelo, hoteles de lujo... y nada! Parecía que Ushuaia se alejaba una vez más. Hasta que, finalmente, cuando mis vacaciones agonizaban, recibí la llamada tan esperada: "¡Te conseguí lugar! Te vas el 23". Y aquí estoy, en el fin del mundo. Por fin.
