Our First Academy Award

February 27th, 2005: for the very first time, an Uruguayan won an Academy Award; the Oscar for the best movie song went to Jorge Drexler, for his beatiful song "Al Otro Lado Del Río" (AT The Other Side Of The River), from Walter Salles' movie "The Motorcycle Diaries".
Congratulations, Jorge, you deserve it, and we all are very proud of you!

Agradecimiento ~ Appreciation

Summertime = Vacations!!!

VT me ha permitido unir varias de mis aficiones: los viajes, la fotografía, la literatura y la navegación por la red. Pero mejor aún, compartir estas aficiones con personas de todas partes del mundo que tienen intereses similares, con quienes se establecen vínculos imposibles de consolidar de no ser por esta maravilla que es la red de redes. VT me ha permitido "conocer" personas cuya inteligencia, sensibilidad y nivel cultural me han hecho reflexionar, autoanalizarme e intentar ser un poco mejor. Pero fundamentalmente me ha hecho conocer buena gente; gente cálida, divertida, entrañable, cuya calidad humana los hace imprescindibles. En estos tiempos de incertidumbre, de cuestionamientos, de duda, encontrar personas que reivindican la especie humana no es poca cosa; por el contrario, mantiene en pie la esperanza de que aún se puede, y que sigue valiendo la pena intentarlo... Gracias.

VT let me join several hobbies: travels, photography, literature and Internet. But still better, it let me share this hobbies with people from all over the world which have similar interests, and with these people links are established thanks this wonder called Internet. VT let me "met" persons whose intelligence, sensitivity and cultural level make me reflect, authoanlyse and try to be a little better. But basically let me met good people; warm, funny, beloved people, whose human quality make them essential. In these times of uncertainty, of questions, of doubt, to met persons that claim for humanity is not a smallnes; on the contrary, these people are the hope... It still can be possible, and it still has worth. Thanks.

Iguassu Falls

I have just finished the page of my last trip... I assisted to a four days Conference for Biology Teachers at Tacuarembo (Uruguay)... An actual "off the beaten path" destination!!! And my Canelones page (where I spent my last summer vacations) is still under contruction, but you can check it if you want to visit another "off the beaten path" place.

Acabo de terminar las páginas de mi último viaje... Asistí durante cuatro días a un Congreso de Profesores de Biología en Tacuarembó (Uruguay)... Un destino turístico verdaderamente inusual! October 31st: Elections day in Uruguay... On Wednesday 27th, there was a massive demonstration at the final celebration of the Frente Amplio, the most popular political party; look at the picture: it was just amazing!!!!

The New Parliament

Uruguayan love politics... The country has a long democratic tradition, and on February 15th, 2005, a historical fact happened: the new Parliament (voted on October 31st, 2004) assumed (it is the fifth consecutive Parliament since the end of the last dictatorship (1973-1984), and the President of the Senate, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, are both former members of Movimiento de Liberación Nacional Tupamaros, the guerrilla force of 60' and early 70', and were elect by popular vote. One of the most touching moments was when the Army paid respects to the Parliament: the soldiers belong to Batallón Florida, the battalion that captured the present President of the Senate more than 30 years ago.

Los Uruguayos amamos la política... El país tiene una larga tradición democrática, y el 15 de febrero de 2005, un hecho histórico ocurrió: el nuevo Parlamento (votado el 31 de octubre de 2004) asumió (es el quinto Parlamento consecutivo desde el fin de la dictadura (1973-1984), y el Presidente del Senado y la Presidente de la Cámara de Diputados, fueron integrantes del
Movimiento de Liberación Nacional Tupamaros, la guerrilla que actuó en los 60' y comienzos de los 70', y fueron electos por voto popular. Uno de los momentos más emocionantes fue cuando el Ejército presentó sus respetos al Parlamento: los militares pertenecían al Batallón Florida, el mismo que apresó al Presidente del Senado más de 30 años atrás.
