A Quiet Weekend in the Tropics

On the way to Pualu Sibu
Pulau Sibu is a little bit of heaven on earth! This quiet relaxed place is located twelve kilometres off the east coast of the West Peninsular of Malaysia it is easy to get here from Singapore. Many residents of Singapore spend one or two weekends a month here to escape the city. In less than 3 hours you can be at the boat launch in Tanjong Leman. Fifteen minutes later you can be sipping cocktails in the hotel bar!
The beach!
There isn't much to the island, but then again it isn't much of an island! Pulau Sibu is a small island about six km long and one km wide! There you will find a small village and about nine hotels. The hotels sit on beaches of golden sand, extremely soft and silky. In other parts of the island the water meets a rocky, rugged coast. There are plenty of opportunity for walks around the island, but beware of the mosquitoes at dusk when walking into the dense jungle in the middle of the island!
In the village of Kg Duku, you will find a mosque, school, clinic and a couple of drink stands. An interesting fact is that the entire village is solar powered. While fishing used to be the primary industry here, the fact that the area around the island is now a marine park, means that the industry has been drastically curtailed. Many people now work at the hotels or in the construction of hotels. If you can tear yourself away from the beach, it?s a nice walk from any of the hotels to the village.

There is excellent swimming in the calm clear waters of Pualu Sibu, as well as snorkeling, and diving. Fishing is available either by charter boat or by rod off the many kelongs standing in the water.
