Lushun, What can you see from the top of 203? 100 years ago, a big battle in history has happened. The two countries, Japan and Russia fought fiercely. In those days Imperialism was the glory age.
Russia wanted south area of the Asia. Japan had to prevent their attack. So, this war was an incident which seriously affects the prestige and existence of each country. In the end, a great many soldier's lives were sacrificed during the war.
Anyway, 203 is name of height of this hill. At the beginning of this battle, Japan has thought this point was not important. Naturally, this place was occupied by Russia. Stessel, the commander of Russia said the 203 was the linchpin of this battle. Japanese thought this point was an impregnable fortress. Japan wanted 203, too. Because from the top of 203 we can see port of Lushun where Russian warships were at anchor as this picture shows. It's will be easy to target them. This fortress was too strong to fight. Japanese commander Nogi struggled to fight, but finally Japan captured here. Nogi lost his two sons in this war.
And then now 203 was changed it's scene. Many tourist come here to recall those days. Lushun is one of the important military area in China. So foreigen tourist may only visit restricted areas with guide. |

This is a mission to prevent the Russian other ships come into this port and to block this port. But after this mission Russian ships could go through this strait safty. Maybe this mission has failed. |
After the battle.... After Japanese captured this hill, the battle has finished. A Russia has surrendered. They has gatherd a place and praised their brave each other.
