Shopping Essentials
Near Barranco there are two big supermarkets, Plaza Vea on Av. Republica de Panamá (taxi s/.3), and Metro in Chorrillos (taxi s/.4).
For quality clothes, books, etc. try shopping in Miraflores. There is a Ripley´s convenience store on Schell in the corner of Parque Kennedy.
Polvos Azules - Lima´s official black market - is a good place to find cheaper clothes, boots, music, cameras, etc. It is situated near downtown in the beginning of Via Expresa, on av. Grau.
Another similar market, Gamarra, is situated in La Victoria.
Arts & Crafts Souvenirs
Best place to go shopping artesanía is Av. Petít Thouars between blocks 51 and 54, near Ovalo Miraflores. The street is lined with handicraft markets and smaller shops. For more expensive art, try shops around Av. Larco in Miraflores.
There are also big craft markets on Av. La Marina y Sucre in Pueblo Libre (taxi s/.8 from Barranco).
Mall Hopping in Lima
Larcomar, overlooking the sea in Miraflores, is the most popular and central shopping centre. It hosts a range of chic shops, several restaurants and fast food places, a movie theatre, bowling and arcade halls and some of Lima´s most popular night clubs: Gotica, Aura and Mama Batata.
Other big mall - Jockey Plaza - is situated in the richer residential suburb of Monterrico. Nothing cheap here and it gets really crowded here with shoppers on weekends. Just next here is the hipódromo de Monterrico, where horce races are held every weekend.
