My wife lived in Lugansk when I first visited in March 2003 and so she arranged a one bed apartment through the following agency: ARENDA KVARTIR (Business name) 38 Karl Marx Street, 2nd Floor Office 3 Lugansk. 10:00 - 17:00 Tel. 345-545-46-66-44 19:00 - 21:00 Tel. 345-545-49-82-53 Ask for Konstantin.
Unique Qualities: The apartment had a reasonable kitchen containing a cooker and fridge/freezer that worked and a bathroom with hot water (most of the time). Lounge contained a colour TV with satellite. It was situated in a typical residential block on a largish estate of similar blocks about 10 minutes walk from the centre of downtown. The stairwells and landings were dirty and covered in rubbish, but the lift worked and the flat was generally clean inside. We paid $100 for 5 nights.

Druzba, Lugansk.: Friendship Hotel

I did'nt actually stay at this hotel myself but when my wife was a student at the University in Lugansk she had a room there. She was happy to recommend this hotel saying that the accommodation was relatively good compared to other hotels in the city. Their charging policy is similar to others in Ukraine whereby foreigners (especially Westerners) pay a higher daily rate than locals and at the Druzba my wife says that the 'premium' accommodation is in a separate part of the building. Unique Qualities: Druzba means 'friendship' and the hotel is placed centrally. The building itself is an interesting design and in the summer months it has a nice garden. Although I did not stay at this hotel I did contact them by e-mail before my visit and they were good enough to reply with details in English. They offered a double room for $40 per day (March 2003).

Unique Qualities: I wrote to all these Hotels in English (accompanied by a Russian translation) requesting tariffs and I received a reply from Druzba and Railway Terminal Hotels. If you do decide to write ensure that you enclose an International Reply Coupon for the return post. You will be more likely to receive a response.
