In July, 27, 1989 they started building a huge mosk. Right now is one of the 2 biggest mosks in Latin America. Mosk, in Spanish is "mezquita". And this one is called "La Mezquita de Caracas". Very few people know it´s full name: Ibrahim Ibin Abdul Aziz Al-Ibrahim. It was built by the engenieer Zuheir Fayez for the muslim comunity. Up to 3.500 persons can gather inside.
I´ve been to mosks in Turkey, but havent been able to visit this one. Is not that simple for a venezuelan-woman-christian. You have to ask for permission, have an appointment, wait.
Two of my cousins (women) finally went. The had to wear something that covered them from head to toe (but I dont believe it was a "burka"). They were not allowed to walk around freely on the inside. They had to stay in an special area destinated to women.
They said it was beautiful. It should be. The outside of the mosk is great.
But what I like the most -about my country- is that very close by there is a huge sinagogue. Here we all live in harmony. Thank God. Any God. Thank God.
