|  | This area is often shaken by earthquakes, the one that recently happened (12th of July 2004) took a life of one Italian mountaineer and caused lots of damage(4,9 on a Richter scale) . On the Easter, 12th of April1998 Posocje area was hit by 5,6 Richter strong earthquake, which caused huge damage, many families lost their homes, and the renovation is still going on. The main earthquake was followed by unusually high number of aftershocks, so inhabitants had to stay out and live under tents for days.
Slovenian poet Simon Gregorcic (1844-1906), was born here, in Vrsno. One of his poems - "To The Soca" - is a prophetic vision of war, written in 1879 ... And frightening you, poor, A storm awful, a storm fearless Will come from bitter south, Rage madly through you fertile plain, That is watered by your stream - Woe, that day is coming closer! Over you an arch clear, Through you the rain of lead, And bloody rain and stream of tears And lightning and thunder ... ...
The Soca valley was the location of major military clashes during the First World War, better known as Soska (Isonzo) Front. Numerous battles were raging from 1915 to 1917.
