"Meaford, the Perfect Small Town" Meaford by windsorgirl
Meaford Travel Guide: 7 reviews and 20 photos
Meaford is a small town of 10,000 located on the southern shores of Georgian Bay and at the mouth of the Bighead River. It is about 20 minutes drive east of Owen Sound and 20 minutes west of Collingwood.
Meaford was settled back in the 1830's attracting farmers to its fertile land and unique microclimate perfect for apple growing. It was named in 1874 after Meaford Hall in England, and many of the town's streets were named after British naval heroes such as Nelson, Trowbridge, Syke, Bayfield and Collingwood.
I visit Meaford on my bicycle as it is only 13 kms down the Georgian Trail from Thornbury. I love Meaford's downtown with it's well preserved turn of the century brick facades. The brick detail on some of the buildings is quite beautiful.
Meaford also attracts hikers, fisherman, boaters and theatre goers. It has a lovely waterside park and beach, a restored opera house, and a busy marina.

Funny enough, I was just looking up some info on an old Disney Christmas movie I watched as a kid in the mid-80's (One Magic Christmas) - and it was filmed here. The town looks really cute!
Very pretty town - I passed through here in August. Nice page!
A beautiful little page on this historic small town! It reminded me a lot of my home of Sussex, NB and, in fact, I had not seen a Stedman's store since my much younger days of wandering the streets there!! Lovely old buildings.
