"Georgian Bay and Muskoka" Parry Sound by windsorgirl

Parry Sound Travel Guide: 38 reviews and 58 photos

Rugged Windswept Georgian Bay

Parry Sound lies in the heart of the famous 30,000 islands which dot the eastern shores of Georgian Bay. It boasts the largest natural harbour on Georgian Bay and most importantly, is the birthplace of hockey legend, Bobby Orr.

Parry Sound is located 225kms north of Toronto. Follow Hwy 400 and then 69. It will take at least 3hrs depending on traffic.

30,000 Islands

As you can see, the coastline of Georgian Bay and the 30,000 islands are very rocky. It is a wonder that any trees or vegetation at all can survive here.

Muskoka

Just east of Parry Sound is the lovely Muskoka Lakes Region. This is the summer home to many wealthy Torontonians and a few famous Americans, namely Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. We regular folk can also enjoy Muskoka's clear lakes and pine forests by renting a cottage or camping in the area.

Beautiful photos accompanying the amazing variety of things to do in this part of Ontario! It must have been so relaxing to get away into nature on that kayak trip!

First, I would like to thank you for stopping by my new Prague page & for your encouraging comments. I enjoyed this page on Parry Sound especially the pic of the view from the Dorset Fire Tower. Leaving shortly for the VT meet in Toronto. Hugs. Lori.

You paint a beautiful picture of the Parry Sound area, I got the map out planning a visit. I enjoyed the info and the photos are stunning. Pity one has to fly into Toronto. I get lost on the airport roads. Consider Windsor.

What a grand way to see Georgian Bay!! And it is always important to strap the watermelon behind to give the proper ballast for the Perception kayaks. Keeps the rudders down in the water;-\
