If you are visiting Moab, you should definitely take the time to check out Dead Horse State Park. There are stunning views here of the winding Colorado River and the snow capped La Sal Mountains to the east.

Admission to the park is $7 for the day, you cannot use your National Parks Pass here.

The Legend of Dead Horse Point

Dead Horse Point is a narrow peninsula of land onto which cowboys would drive wild herds of mustangs. The cowboys would then erect a brush fence behind the horses so that they were trapped by the fence and the steep canyon cliffs. The cowboys then chose the horses that they wanted to keep and left the others there to find their way out. Unfortunately one group of horses couldn't make their way off the cliff and died there from thirst within view of the Colorado River.

We got so busy when we got out to Moab, I ended up missing this view. Well, we'll go back next year...and try again. Have a marvelous birthday.

I agree the view was incredible! And to think I had never heard of this park until I visited Moab. Did not know about the movies that were filmed there, thx!

Definitely an outstanding view, and not a bad story of how the Park was named too!!!
