I was lucky to be able to visit a friend in Holland for 3 weeks and together we drove along the north coast through Belgium and France. Along the way we stopped in Antwerp and Brugges where I took a very interesting day trip to the battlefields and war cemeteries of WWI.

I also enjoyed a full day in Brugges, walking through the old town and cycling in the surrounding countryside. Brugges is definitely a "must see" on your Belgian itinerary.

I also visited Belgium in 1987 as part of my first solo backpacking trip through Europe. I covered 13 countries in 4 months. While passing thru in '87, I visited Gent, Brugges and Brussels and Namur.

I also loved Brugges when we visited there. It is truly one of the prettiest cities of Europe and a real gem. The day we went to Antwerp it poured rain, so we didn't get to see much. What a shame.
