Lisbon is a beautiful city with a few caracteristic squares, buildings and views. Exceptionally beautiful are the (very different) neigbourhoods of Alfama and Belem. Belem is a rich, and richly decorated, 'suburb'. Alfama is the old neighbourhood of the people with a lot of picturesque streets and views.
Differenat earthquakes have dominated the way the city is build, and the parts of history that we can still see. The Carmo convent is a silent witness of one of the desastrous events. |
