Rome

Rome.. Do I need to say more? All roads lead to Rome, and so did mine. Three times! If you love Italy, history, art, you should have been there. I love all of them. Therefore I couldn't escape it.
Stanze di Rafaello

My trips to Rome

The first time I went to Rome was in 1999. My parents decided to show us the city and took us there. It was a beautiful week, but it didn't make such an impression as it did later. We went to see much of the highlights, but much was closed because of the coming year 2000!
The next time I went to Rome was in the autumn of 2000. Everything was open now, and because I was with my schoolclass, I had the opportunity to see everything I wanted. I was great! I loved Rome. But I started to love Rome even more after I read a book about Rome from a Dutch autor who lived there. Now I adored Rome and after my graduation I returned there with a friend of mine who also had been on the schoolexcursion. We had a week to see all. And this time really all! I only missed one church (San Pietro in Montorio). Of course there still remaines a lot to see, and of course I will return to see the more obscure and hidden parts of the city. You'll never have enough.

The end of the story

The result was that I started to love whole Italy. I also visited Sicily a few years ago and in november 2002 travelled to North Italy to see a few cities there. But more important: I wanted to learn Italian. I started to learn it from some old studybooks (therefore my Italian is pretty archaic). This summer I went to Italy again (Tuscany) to study Italian on a summerschool. I'm also planning to study a year in Italy. Since september 2002 I'm a history student with a passion for both ancient history and the history of the twentieth century. I must be possible to learn more about that in a environment like a Italian town!
