Cherry Blossom Festival
Favorite thing: The Cherry Blossom Festival get a lot of news coverage, there are cameras and vans all over. This is a very big event for this town and people have been coming here to see the Cherry Blossoms bloom for decades. There are many diferent activities surrounding this event, you must go to experence it for your self, it is so worht the trip!
Hunted down like a dog!
Favorite thing: Let me tell you a little story, I snapped this simple shot not for a tip but to remind me of what the name of the fort was & the date & for an other shot. So I.m standing near the main gate in front of this sign and took the shot, the guard says not photos please, I respond no problem and walk away. Terry & I get about 4 blocks and here comes an MP in a 4X4. He was very nice but all I keep hearing is "can I see your camera, is that digital?" I say sure here you go and if you need me to delete some thing just let me know which ones! He could find no issue with the photos I had and found us not to be a spy or any kind of threat so he let us go. How nice of him! The moral of this story is BE VERY CAREFUL WHERE YOU SHOOT!! They may come after you!
Annabel Lee
Favorite thing: Terry & I took a brunch tour down & back up the Potomac River with all the Cherry Blossom Princeses and saw a few of the beautiful Roverboats alpng the way. This one is privately owned by a school or college, sorry don't remember which the old fella said, it does not run tours for visitors, only the students. A little tid bit an 83 year old man told me, this cute little couple in their 80's I met at Phillips Flagship Restaurant located at the marina on the Potomac River down near the fort. He said he was on the board at that school, that's how he new this info. Sorry didn't mean to get off track, just wanted to share this beautiful boat with you.
Great information & welcome booth
Favorite thing: This is a great place to check out when your in Union Staion. You can book a tours and get all the visitor information you need here including maps and coupons. It located on the bottom floor near the front toward the street. The staff is really nice and very helpful.
Sightseeing from Union Station
Favorite thing: These is a sightseeing tour booth as you come down the stairs from the parking garage. They have many diferent types of tours that you can book from this location, trolley, bus and many more. So make sure you stop by here on your way from the garage, book your tour and then go explore in the Union Station.
National Park Maps
Favorite thing: These maps are located all over, if you not quite sure where you are and see one just stop and it's real easy to figure out where you are and where to go next or to easily find the next museum.
Information booth
Favorite thing: You should stop and check out one of thse tour information booths for great tours, times & things to do, maps. These people are very helpful and can point you in the right direction.
Cherry Blossoms, no people.
Favorite thing: If you want to be able to move around at all, do NOT go to see the Cherry Blossoms on the Last Saturday of Peak Bloom. "When is peak bloom" you may ask.
You can find this out every year on a great web site.
It is called
www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org
Fondest memory: On Friday, before the parade, during the day it was lovely and quiet around the basin. People were strolling and photographing the trees, and offering to take photos of each other. It was so peaceful. The next day it was like another planet. Too many people, (20-30 deep between you and the basin) not enjoyable at all. Mike never would have gotten this picture on Saturday, the day of the Cherry Blossom Parade.
