Off The Beaten Path: Bat Cave

On a day trip I was show this place. The Thai’s referred to it as Viking’s Cave. Now this is not what its real name is but they change it so that the Western cultures could easily associate with it. The tour boats will not let you disembark there to explore the caves. We did see some people in there but they had private boats.

Off The Beaten Path: Camels are meant for the dessert

Off in the distances you can see a rock formation that looks like a camel. One of the stops on the many boat tours you can take while visiting all the islands off the coast of Phuket.

|
Another stop on the boat excursions that the guides will take you too. They call this place Blow Hole. As the tide rises, it erodes away at the cliff. When the tide is extremely high, the guide was telling us that it looks like a whales blow hole releasing water as it comes in and then spits back out.

Phang Nga Bay: A pillar of tourism...

The other main attraction to James Bond Island is this rock formation. In the movie a laser cannon was shown appearing from the top of it. You could almost walk out to it, the water was that shallow. Still, a very peculiar shape for a rock.

Phang Nga Bay: Gilligan's Island market...

|
James Bond Island was located in a Phang Nga national park. The ferry had to stop and inform the rangers as to how many people were on the boat. There are no over night stays in Phang Nga. The rangers are there to enforce that rule as well make sure that the parks are looked after.

While sea kayaking our guide took us to see Sharks mouth. If you look closely you will see that the rock formation on the left hand side of the picture looks like a shark’s mouth. Up until that point I had not worried about sharks at all. Makes you start to think.
