Susanville was a small, clean, old town close to the "Company Town" of Westwood, CA. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Growing up there was a wonderful experience. I remember thinking, as a child, that our neighbore always had their noses up our asses. Of course, now, I realize that is what makes a good safe environment for children to grow up in. People who take the time to look around them and see what is going on. Watching out for their neighbors; who's coming, who's going. Small town people can do that nicely because they know their neighbors. I'll bet it's not like that so much any more.
The Prison changed the town. And, not for the better. The College changed the town too. But, not as much negativity can be attributed to the school as to the prison. I know because I grew up in Susanville and then I worked in the prison for five years, then took a transfer down into this small city of Riverside.
- Pros:Beautiful area and views. Cold weather kills most common pollens and tree diseases
- Cons:Some hard winters can be encountered here. It gets really cold; -20 degrees.
- In a nutshell:I'm glad I grew up here. I'm sad the character has changed so much.
