Habtiat for Humanity- Zambia I visited Zambia from May 21- June 17 as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Our team stayed in a small village near the border of the Congo, called Nkwazi. I had an amazing experience and highly recommned volunteering with Habitat!!
See my Zambia Album (scroll down this page for that link) and my Zambia page also on this sight on my travel pages) for more info. And if you are interested in volunteering with Habitat here is the link to my website there where you can learn more!

| | 2004 TRAVEL: Paris & Brussels & Ghent, (Belgium) Bon Jour! Last summer I visited Paris and Gent and Brussels, Belgium. This was for a work trip where I luckily managed to fit in some R & R!
I started a page with info on Gent (a beautiful and unique, non-touristy city) and on Brussels, with more to be added.
Gent is a beautiful city. During mediaeval times Gent was the 2nd largest city in Northwest Europe after Paris. Now the city had about 200,000 residents. Although, while I was there, over a million people were visiting for a popular annual street festival. The streets were so crowded just walking down the street was like exiting a packed stadium! But there were live performances in all directions of all kinds all day and night! |
| | More Ghent... Called the "mini-Venice of Belgium", Gent is about an hour West of Brussels. It has 26 canals, and as many bridges which connect the islands of the city. It is the 2nd largest city of the region 'Flanders' (the Northern part of Belgium, where they speak Flemish). French is spoken in the South.
Visit my (and other Virtual Tourist members's) Gent page to read more and see more photos! |
| | S. Korea and Japan* I lived in Japan for one year and taught English in a small city called Aizuwakamatsu in the state of Fukushima, 4 hours by bus from Tokyo.
I was a participant in the JET Program, (Japan Exchange Teacher program). The program is co-sponsored by the US and Japanese goverments. I was there August 1999- August 2000. Visit this external site created by my friend:
http://www.kellytobin.8m.com/
I'm happy to share my experiences in Japan and offer advice or answer questions such as what other opportunities could bring someone to Japan, or what are the differences between the JET program or working for a private English school, etc... just ask!
I visited Seoul, South Korea (in March 2003) and collected research for my Master's thesis for my degree in International Relations . My thesis topic was "Contemporary US/Korean Relations: A South Korean Perspective." A few pictures from that trip, and a bit about my research can be read at my Korea page.
If you have questions about Boston, Washington, D.C., South Korea, Japan, Zambia, or any other places I've been, or if you just want to make a new friend, drop me a line!! I look forward to hearing from you!
