The Pantheon is one of the most important Roman Temples, it's also the best preserved. It was built by Marcus Agrippa, son-in-law of Augustus, in 27 B.C., in honour of all the gods: hence its name. The Pantheon is circular in plan, preceded by a pronaos of Greek type supported by sixteen monolithic granite columns. The interior is majestic and highly original in its architecture. The hemispherical dome, of exceptional diameter (43.30 meters: equal to its maximim height from the floor), is decorated with coffering and illuminated by a central aperture some nine meters in diameter.

The Colosseum is the term commonly used to indicate the Flavian Amphitheatre; it perhaps derives from the fact that a gigantic statue of Nero known as the Colossus was situated adjacent to it. Begun by Vespasian in 72, the Colosseum was completed by his son Titusin the year 80: Titus set aside 100 days of festivity to celebrate its inauguration. It could contain up to 50000 spectators who gathered there to watch the famous games which were often cruel, but which aroused enormous enthusiasm in the spectators..

In ancient times the Forum was a civic piazza surrounded by basilicas, temples and monuments where the public life of the city took place. Later the place became a favorite meeting point between the inhabitants of the city and those from the surrounding hills. This trading activity brought shops, temples and basilicas progressively arose, eventually transforming the area into the heart of the city. Now it's obviously seen that in forum area there are different monuments and basilicas from different times.. If they go on archeological works the monuments on the top can be diseased.. And there also are alot of history laying under the forum indeed....

From the nearby Piazza della Pilotta, we take the Via San Vincenzo Lucchesi which leads us to the spectacular Trevi Fountain. Erected for Clement XII by the architect Nicolo' Salvi towards the end of the 17th century, it shows at its centre the statue of Ocean riding in a sea-chariot drawn by two Tritons..

Elegant and scenic, the Piazza di Spagna provides a welcoming point of encounter at the center of Rome. There are 18th century buildings that surround it. If you have limited time to visit Roma, you'll be very tired of walking... ( You need at least 4 days to finish Roma) So these stairs can help you to breath a bit and eat your meal, watching charming architecture and gazing at people around..

Piazza del Popolo was designed by Valadier at the beginning of the IX century; it is considered as one of the best urbanistic buildings in the city. (This piazza was a quiz question for me! )In the middle of the big space the second biggest obelisk in Rome is located, which was brought by the Emperor Augustus, and here erected by Fontana during the time of Sisto V. On the slopes of the Pincio terrace, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view, stands the church of S. Maria del Popolo, built around the XI century and completely restored during the Renaissance. Inside it you can find many masterpieces by Pinturicchio and Caravaggio. The second aisle from the left side houses the Chigi Chapel designed by Raphael in the Renaissance. On the square too stand the two Twins Churches of S. Mary in Montesanto and S. Mary of Miracles, that, though very similar externally, present many differences in their interiors. Another element characterising the big space of the square is Porta del Popolo, which was the most important way for the access to Rome through the consular road Flaminia.

It represents one of the most popular and characteristic centres of the city. The piazza is adorned with three fountains of which the central one is the famous "Fountain of the Rivers". (Sculpted by Bernini and his pupils, 1650-51.) At the southern end of the piazza is the "Fountain of the Moor". At the other end of the piazza is the "Fountain of Neptune". Facing on to the Fountain of the Rivers is the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone(17th century), a masterpiece of baroque architecture by Rainaldi and Borromini. The piazza is completed by a further three buildings: the church of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli, the Palazzo Lancellotti and the palazzo Pamphilj.
