Seat of the High Kings in Irealand Co Meath located 50 km from Dublin has a wonderful historic heritage trail. Plenty of Medieval Monuments, the Hill of Tara where this magical site is said to have been home to the gods and goddesses to druids and warriors and to Irelands High Kings. Bective Abbey is yet another site to visit this abbey was home to monks around 1147. Trim Castle built in 1173 is the largest anglo norman castle in Europe. Athboy is also a medieval town with some of its original walls still standing. The Hill of ward just 2 miles outside Athboy is an Iron Age fort which was once the seat of the high kings. Kells Heritage town again is another monastic settlement town with lots of see and look at. Loughcrew, where the oldest cemetery in the worlds is. Dunmoe Castle where the Normans once lived. The Hill of Slane synonymous with St Patrick and the Druids. The battle of the Boyne site where William of Orange defeated James II in 1690. Make sure you have a few days to spare in this part of the country to explore. |
