Know as the Windy City but not to describe the weather. It was to describe the cities long winded politicians.
The Indians once lived on the shores of Lake Michigan. The area was then know to them as Chicaugou. Explorers from France discovered Chicago who established the city around the 1770. Chicago is the third largest metropolitan area in the US. Seven million people live there. The great fire of 1871 destroyed most of the city. The fire killed 300 people and left thousands homeless. Most of the buildings were destroyed in the fire. Architects flowed into the city to rebuild. Famous architects included Lous Sullivan, William Jenny and John M Van Osdel.
Discover the beauty of Lake Michigan the incredible Architecture spread across the city, take a boat trip on Chicagos river, go shopping on the magnificent mile. Visit the John Hancock centre to see the cities delights. Visit Navy Pier and visit one of the many mueums Chicago has to offer. Go to a famous blues club or chill out in one of the many parks. |
| | Famous Route 66 When Route 66 was decommissioned all the signs were removed and no one could find Route 66. Someone had a great idea to install historic signs like the one in the picture to help anyone who wanted to take the route. Nowadays people steal the signs for souvenirs and l believe its not easy finding the route. The photo was taken outside Union train station in April 2005. I went to Chicago for Christmas 2005/06 and the sign had disappeared. |
