If l put tips in here about restaurants l have been to, they would probably be out of date. So l will tell you about the typical delicious food that l have tasted.

The special dish of Bogota is called Ajiaco.
This is made from chicken, corn on the cob, different types of potatos with cream and capers. Served with avacado. The main ingredient is guasca, a herb that l can't find in Ireland.

    Arepa con queso
One of my favourites. This is made from maize like a pancake, topped with melted cheese. I still buy them ready made in London when l visit.

Aroz con coco .. rice with coconut milk

    Arroz con pollo
Rice with chicken. This dish is very typical found in most restaurants. Also includes vegtables and fish and is so tasty.

    Hot chocolate..
To this day l still take it like the colombians. Cup of hot chocolate with cheese. You put the cheese into the chocolate and eat it with a spoon when you finished the chocolate. . yummy.

    Empanada
Fried pasty stuffed with rice vegtables and meat.

    Papa salada
Potatos boiled in the skin sprinkled with salt acompained with mashed avocado.. devine.

    Plantano
Fried banana, flattened covered in salt.. not good for the heart.

    Tamales
Pork or chicken with vegtables wrapped in a banana leave and steamed.

Dont forget to try the many different juices made from fresh fruit. Be careful if your buying from a vendor on the street as they use tap water that is dangeours to us Europeans.

Favorite Dish: This is a Colombian restaurant offering a good regional menu. It has four outlets situated in different parts of the city: Carrera 11 con Calle 89, Avenida Jimenez, Avenida Pepe Sierra and Centro Internacional. The restaurant was founded 35 years ago and since then has been serving excelent fare, especially Ajiaco with chicken, which is a Bogotano speciality. Which is delicious.

The Restaurant at the Gold Museum again is very popular with the locals for lunch and meetings or just to relax and take it all it. The food is delicious and they serve a very tasty Ajiaco.

Great to see and read the fun time you had in Colombia but as you say it can be a hazardous place. Hope someday it can enjoy the freedom and ease of so many other countries. Thanks Louise, enjoying your pages. From Will in Dublin.
