Public beach old market
If you get bored of your hotel beach you can always go to a different one. There are two in the old town part of Sharm that you can use.The first is the public beach, run by the government. It is only LE10(£1) to enter(including towel) but is pretty basic. The sea is gently shelving making it very safe for the young. The second beach,Terrazzina, is far more cosmopolitan and well looked after but it is a privately owned beach and costs LE35(£3.50) including towel to use.It has a good restaurant that can be accessed free if just dining. They also serve drinks(including alcohol) and snacks and have live foreign DJs every day until after dusk for that chilled Ibiza feeling. The sea bed here is also gently slopping. There are also 3 beaches that you can pay to use in the Om el sid area of Hadaba. The first is called reef beach and is situated at the end of the road opposite the Sharming inn,it cost LE10 to use it and includes sun bed but no towel, the toilets here are very good but getting into the sea can be a bit rough. There is a restaurant on site and they serve drinks(including alcohol) on the beach.
Address: Sharm El Maya/Om el sid
Directions: Both are very near the taxi station in the old town/market area of Sharm,Terazzinna is at the junction of Mohamed El Yamani St whilst the public beach is at the junction of the peace road. The other beaches are spread along the om el sid hill top.
Blue spotted ray
Sharm is not just a lovely holiday destination. It is also one of the worlds premier diving locations. This is due in the main to the quality and volume of both fish/mammal life and the coral life. However,if you do not dive all is not lost, you can see about 80% of the wildlife in the red sea in the first 3M of water and the fact that it is very close to the shore aswell makes snorkelling the ideal way to do it.All of the pictures with this tip where taken at the beach in Naama Bay about 20M out from the shore.
Address: Almost anywhere along the red sea coast
Beach next to Ritz Carlton(Diamond beach?)
The next one along the coast is the beach that some of the cheaper hotels use,the Mexicana etc and is situated down the end of an unmade up track at the side of what is at the moment a building site,it may be called Diamond beach. To get to it make your way to the entrance of the Ritz Carlton hotel, this is on a roundabout, instead of going ahead into the ritz turn right,as soon as you have turned right you need to turn left and then carry on down the track, its about a 5 min walk or get the taxi to take you all the way. This beach costs LE20 and again you need your own towel, the toilets here are not very good.Snorkelling is very good, access is easy off of floating pontoons straight into deep water. For the best fish etc swim to the left. This beach also has a restaurant serving booze. The last beach is found at the end of a gravel road opposite the main entrance to the open air cinema(alf leila wa leila) which is on El Fanar st(it is the track at the side of the small super market) .This beach is the Kirosiez beach and costs LE20 but includes a towel as well, the toilets are spotless. The entrance is down the left side of the hotel at the security desk. The sea is also accessed by pontoon into deep water. If you want to eat or drink you need to go to the restaurant/bar either half way back up the hill or the one at the very top.
