Bangkok's Canals - the Khlongs: Bangkok Chao Phraya Canal Communities
  • Tip Rating:
  • The small home communinits on the Chao Phraya River are normally missed by visiters to Bangkok. These communities appear as old wooden shanty type homes right in the river up some of the less traveled canals. They are very interesting to check out! Great for photo journalism too.

Off The Beaten Path: Floating Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • If your in Bangkok on Saturday you must go the the floating markets. They only take place on the week ends (especially saturday). You can hire a long tail boat to visit some of the floating markets on the Chao Phraya. Highly reccomended experience! The cost for an hour tour rages from 350 Baht to 150 baht.

Off The Beaten Path: Ayutthaya National Park

  • If you don't have time to make it to Angkor Wat in Cambodia or Sukhothai in Thailand (in the middle of the northern areas) you should make a day trip to Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya used to be the ancient capital of Siam at one point in history and now there are many temple ruins there. You can make a day trip from Bangkok for as little as 400 baht p/p inc transportation. Well worth the day!

Very interesting local custom for placing the 112 coins. I am sure the money will go to good causes as Buddhism is Thailand's main religion.
